A Good Distance From Here to There
A couple of days ago I was interested in updating some images on my Inkteraction profile. For those who are unfamiliar, Inkteraction is a social network, similar to Facebook, for printmakers. Anyway, I was browsing through which prints I had already uploaded in my photo albums when I discovered one which was not on this blog. Interesting. Somehow I had forgotten to include it with the rest of the woodcuts completed in 2011, but had uploaded it to Inkteraction out of context.
Posting an image of this print today is actually extremely fitting on a personal note. The title “A Good Distance From Here to There”, describes my most recent experience perfectly. This morning my wife Alyssa and I woke up in my hometown of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, clear across the country from where I we currently live in Portland, Oregon. It is always a very long trip with no direct flights between the two cities. Portland to Houston to Pittsburgh = A very long day.
Anyways, we are here for the wedding of my friends Justin and Megean. I’ve known Justin since the 9th grade, which sadly is over twenty years ago. They are getting married on Saturday and I couldn’t be happier to be involved. Justin are Meagan are perfect for each other.
There is also a Pierogi bar at the reception. A PIEROGI BAR…. AT THE RECEPTION! It’s great to be home. I love this town. But it sure is a good distance from here to there.
Forgive the mistakes in this post if there are any (There probably are)….I’m very jet lagged this morning.

Have a great time at the wedding. Had to put “pierogi” into a well-known search engine, and it appears to be a Polish food of some kind. Not reached the UK yet.
Thanks, the wedding should be amazing. Pierogies are a delicious polish ravioli-type food often filled with potatoes,onions and cheese that can be boiled, baked or fried. The pierogi is a fundamental “food group” for a kid growing up in Pittsburgh along with kielbasa.

Thanks Rosie. A pierogi is a Polish “ravioli” often filled with potato, onion and cheese. I’ve never seen a pierogi bar, but expect that “bar” means there will be at least 4 different varieties of pierogi. Two varieties, I imagine, would be “a couple”, three, “a few”, but “bar” causes expectation’s of many variety of pierogies. Yum!

Born, bred and proud yinzer. Originally we planned to go to Brooklyn on this trip to visit the museum, but we will not get the chance. It’s a shame, because I never met a pierogi I didn’t like.

‘From Here to There’ is great – I am not familiar with woodcut which makes it that much more interesting.

First let me apologize for taking so long to respond. For some reason your comment was filed in my spam folder. I need to find out how to fix that. I do find my blog more interactive and therefore satisfying than inkteraction. I’ve met far more printmakers and so many great people through my blog, and have attained a feeling of community and support. Inkteraction is a great resource and could be a truly wonderful community building tool, except it often appears that many of the people don’t hardly ever log in anymore. I just sent you a friend request on Inkteraction, maybe we can make it more interactive.
